Trying out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Gym Ni Juan

It was a rainy Saturday night when I, together with my blogger girl friends Nana Jover of A Not Secret Life, Apple Ochon of The Appletizer and Andrea Guanco of Feature Iloilo decided to pursue our long time plan of having a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) session at Gym Ni Juan.

We thought that it was already the high time to burn some calories by learning self-defense as we had series of food tasting events the days prior. Honestly, before we went to Gym Ni Juan, we had a Schüblig dressing event at Mrs. Wharton and so we were not-so-ready for some grappling and choking stunts but still we pushed it through.

And yes, our assumptions were correct as we already struggled  while doing the warm up exercises. We did squats, planks and crunches. For beginners like us who only see the gym once in a blue moon, the struggle is real... LOL!

Good thing our fellows during our BJJ session were all fun and nice enough to join us in our newbie dramas. Coach Maui explained at the start of the session that more than a sport and a way of learning self-defense. BJJ is also a good venue to find new friends and an extended family. And indeed, that is what we found when we joined them.

Since it was our initiatioin to BJJ, Coach Maui first taught us the basics like how to survive an attempt, easy choking techniques and some important pointers on how to resist an opponent.

The BJJ regulars of Gym Ni Juan also showed us some actual techniques in a live action when they had sparring. And ofcourse, I also tried the little things I learned from Coach Maui which took me a lot of sweat... hahaha!

But here's the real sparring. Though they are just kids, I won't dare to spar against them.

I never thought that learning BJJ would be that fun. Aside from it's a good way to exercise, this sports can also be a sort of stress-reliever, a venue to learn self-defense and most all, meet new friends.

Gym Ni Juan is now having a switch promo for its BJJ. It lets those who are enrolled in other martial arts school offering BJJ except for The Cage and Next Level Fitness, pay P800 per month for three months plus P500 annual fee which already includes ID and single. Here's the flyer for the complete details.

Aside from BJJ, Gym ni Juan is also offering Muai Thai, Boxing, Circuit Training and gym only services. It is complete with gym facilities and amenities for you to achieve your fitspiration goals.

Gym ni Juan is located at the 4th floor of Empress Palace Bldg., Commission Civil Street, Iloilo City. They are open from 6 am to 10 pm every Monday to Saturday and 8 am to 4 pm every Sunday.
